I’m guessing the answer to Zoey’s question will be “yes.”

Gavin: “Do you think there’s a reason for that?”

Because Sam prefers melodrama over logic. An entire island of people and only 1 person is transgender. Makes perfect sense.

For 1997? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me. 1 in 10,000 people seems like a logical number for that time period. We know that Sylvana’s gender curse isn’t too common, only a small fraction of the seven billion people on the planet have it.

Statistics show that around 0.3% of the US population identifies as trans, which on CI would mean the bare statistics would put no more than 20-30 people as potentially trans. But other factors would likely reduce that number quite a lot, like CI being an island that’s fairly isolated, and thus more insular. Note that there doesn’t appear to be a single (living) sorceror resident on the island. We also know that Ruby’s curse is a lot less common than transgenderism is in our world, likely due to Alistair working so hard to eradicate it for centuries. Thus, the curse… Read more »

OK even if I would accept this fact. One of the ways Sam showed Gaela’s dysphoria was that she was nervous around girls? So is every fictional male character who’s nervous around girls have the possibility of being trans because they’re jealous of the opposite gender and want to have their body? Cause that’s what Sam is implying. Gavin struck me as simply an underconfident yet kind nerd. He seemed content with his gender all throughout and didn’t even show a HINT of dysphoria even after he and Zoey became a couple(which may I remind you is when Gaela figured… Read more »

If you’re referring to Nikki in Fractured I thought that reveal was just as obviously coming as this one.

I don’t think Sam’s implying anything like that. Much like with any fictional character or real person, it’s all a case-by-case basis. Just because Gavin/Gaela is trans doesn’t mean that every man who is nervous around women is also trans. It just so happens that this transgender individual is nervous around other women. We’ve seen plenty of transgender individuals on this site, and they all don’t act like Gavin, so this is just unique to him/her. Also, there were LOTS of hints that Gavin is trans throughout this story, especially in the last 150 pages. And not just when Gavin… Read more »

Gavin/Gaela: “I still got few other things to admit…”

Zoey/Zack: “If you want to be a girl, does that mean you’re attracted to men or women?”

Hmmm… I wonder if the theory of Gavin having a crush on Zack is true. Looks like we’re about to find out.

“No one outside this room will ever know.”

Little do they know, there’s someone else in that room, waiting to be fully assembled and fixed, so that Gaela’s wish will finally come true.

And Zoey’s wish to return to being Zack will too. It remains to be seen if Alistair can hear, understand and remember, in his disassembled state.

Meanwhile, this entire conversation is being overwatched by the image of Darth Vader in the background. Time for aqua lung breathing sounds…
