“It seems that the launch day of Age of Adventurers isn’t going as smoothly as planned. The creators of AOA, Star Reach Studios, have blackout during their big launch party. This can’t be good…”
Ah, so it’s not just blatantly copying the “trapped in a game by the creator” thing from SAO. That’s good!
(I mean, seriously, given that I actually know SAO so well, it’s kind of hard not to notice all of the parallels. From the VR device, the killer app being a VRMMO, the lack of magic in the game, and the October launch date…)
If you know so much about SAO, then you should know that it wasn’t the first of the “people trapped in the video game” stories. Movies like “Tron” and animes like the “.hack” series told that story long before SAO. So, going by your logic, SAO is blatantly copying the “trapped in a video game” thing from “Tron.” Or…you know, it could be that “Maker’s Game” never was attempting to copy anything from SAO, and both of them just so happen to fall into the same genre – the “people trapped in a video game” genre. This is also helped… Read more »
A lack of IT background is showing… This couldn’t happen. There wouldn’t be one site with “the main game servers” — there would be multiple redundancies, includes load-balancing across servers in multiple sites. Lots of things could cause headaches for a game company during launch week but a power outage in a single site would be a minor inconvenience, not a catastrophe. But… “willing suspension of disbelief” and all that… 🙂
it’s safe to assume Sam doesn’t work IT, but yeah things like that wouldn’t happen. Not to mention servers would usually be dispersed across a few different regions to cut latency, the most logical move considering it’s a US-based game company yet their initial release is in Asia & Europe
Actually, all it would take is an idiot at the top making decisions and ignoring the advice (and frantic screaming) of his experts. For instance, if he decides that, for security reasons, all server software has to be kept in the main site so it can’t be stolen and then insisting that the backup generators will take care of power outages, etc., then, yes, I can fully see there only being one server site at start up.
I have seen too many stupid mistakes made like this in the past.
Assuming in this scenario this VR tech and game release is cutting edge to the market, the company wouldn’t make such counterintuitive decisions by listening to just “an idiot at the top”. That being said, with the sinister origins to the game hinted at from page 1, it’s safe to assume such “stupid mistakes” are actually intended by someone’s design to cause this situation.
I can’t help feeling it is entirely plausible:- Hot stand-by – the comms card(s) burnt out and we’re waiting for spares; Backups – no we haven’t tested they work; any other form of resilience – we’re a start-up so as new equipment doesn’t fail, we won’t need backups until next year! Does this sound familier to anyone else (Rant Over)
A large game may have only one location where a realm server is hosted, causing that realm to go down, but those are typically located in the region players are connecting from. This would only affect a portion of the game’s realms.
It’s especially odd, because the line specifically reads “main game servers,” almost like the game was developed in and is being run out of that one building, while the signals are sent out to other hosts. Interesting.
As someone who has rented servers for years (which are ironically also in LA) I am aware of that. I would respond to this, but it all gets answered on the next page anyway.
I completely agree. It really ruins reading the comments when there are at least five people every page making some comparison between “Maker’s Game” and SAO. It’s like those people aren’t giving “Maker’s Game” enough time to find its own identity and that anything set in a virtual reality MUST be like SAO. We’re only ten pages in, people. SAO and “Maker’s Game” are just two completely different stories that take place in the same genre. I would really appreciate it if people stopped bringing up SAO.
Sadly there are people who when politely asked to stop doing something as its driving you up the wall go out of there way to do it even more. I know I work with a dozen of them which is really, really frustrating.
So now we begin to see how they get stuck, wonder where Australia sits in the markets Asia, Europe or like normal nowhere because we aren’t worth the time. . . I do like the multicoloured woooo though.
“We regret to inform you it is currently imposssible to log out due to your original data being corrupted please be patient while the AoA technicians attempt to resolve this problem.”
Possibly. But based on page one, I would say it is quite likely that the power failure is deliberate and that there is additional sabotage in the works.
This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Well how would they sue if their trapped in the game?

How about the creator being trapped in his own game. Talk about irony.

Srs for life hah puns!
Star Reach Studios… SRS. Yeah.
I noticed that while copy editing this, too! 🙂
HUH…….
I quite enjoy lack of reality in the site. And someone who enjoys Sy
fi and magic I have faith in the Creator to make it all work.
10th page already? These comics grow up so fast.
Wait til there’s two or three hundred of them.
From my point of view, we’ve finished the next 30 to 40 pages, so I’m like “What? They’re all still back here?”
I’m getting that too, currently working on page 40. It’s like ‘when are we going to get to the really good stuff’?
We have to wait 30 days before anything good happens?
I don’t think that’s what Mimi is saying. It’s more like, what’s happening is good right now, but in 30 pages it’ll get even better.
Well you could always release a random out of context panel from a future page lol

Story isn’t too far fetched at this point.

oh no this is some bad news for someone
Bah, ha a black out and the servers are there, dun dun!!!1
SAO: Sapphirefox Edition!
My thoughts exactly
Hopefully with less homicide and evil madman psychosis, and more sexy times.
What is SAO:
Could you guys stop making up SAO parallels, please? It’s getting seriously tiresome.

Well then we’ll have to wait and see how different from SAO this is! I dont think SAO had gender swaps anyway… but it should of!
Sadly there are people who when politely asked to stop doing something as its driving you up the wall go out of there way to do it even more. I know I work with a dozen of them which is really, really frustrating.
oh dear

what it could be the effect of shut down of power on the players?!

Possible Database crash…. with original body data lost permanently with no backup 🙂
do you think it will effect players original personality or bodies?
