There hasn’t really been a good place in the comic to talk about this, but in her college days, Gabby was a LOT like Carlos. Big into parties, getting drunk, etc. Carlos and Gabby originally met in college and connected because they were going to the same party scenes. Gabby was also Carlos’s first serious girlfriend.
After a couple years of enjoying the party scene, Gabby mellowed out and started taking college seriously. While Carlos continued to focus almost entirely on the party scene. They broke up due to their shifting desires, but stayed good friends.
