Im really sick of the Karl is Cypher theory. Why on Earth would Karl do all of this to his best friend? Plus, he seems hella straight. If he knew Lara was Luke, why would he be doing this? I would think it would be a major turn off if he knew Lara was a guy
I didn’t even know it was a wide spread theory until today, I usually read on release before there’s any comments about it.
Maybe he’s a warlock and can see Luke’s Cursed? He’s trying to get Luke to accept he really does want to be Lara. Sure his means are extremely questionable, but people do questionable stuff all the time to reach an end goal.

Cypher’s not a warlock and we’ll never know if Luke has the gender curse, because this is a non-magic comic. There will be no sorcerers, spells or curses at any point in Favors and Followers. Even if Luke has the gender curse, we’ll never find out because you need a sorcerer to find the curse first.

This is my theory as well, based on the same evidence. Though one other big thing that did it for me is that Luke somehow had Cypher’s number in his own phone. Otherwise the name would not come up when he looks at those texts: he’d just see some random phone number. We *know* Karl has had access to Luke’s phone, at which point he could have added “Cypher” to his contact list.
