Love lost? – Maybe the Mistress possessed Zoey, then Gavin realizes it’s not his girlfriend that he knows and loves her. Perhaps this spirit should help the whole case after there’s no men left to screw over eventually.
Or The Girl ghost would play with the couple along her demonic horse pet until she wants a family as her older siblings just like Eveline from Resident Evil 7.

There is no internet. Well more precisely the internet existed at the time but not at a grand scale it might be a case where cinder isle was one of the last places to get it. Either way the government could easily cut it off.
Regardless the outside world just knows there was a nuclear accident there and its blocked off. The military still sends supplies to the island though which can include entertainment.
