How do they still have grocery stores, jobs…etc. with all the chaos going on. I would think they would have rationing.

The government is still sending in regular shipments of food, clothes, medicine, etc. Everything they need from the outside world is still getting to them, it just has to go through the military blockade first. And everyone still has their jobs on the island, since that’s how they have to pay for their food, clothes, running water, electricity, etc. Being locked up on the island hasn’t stopped the need for money.

Great job on the Ford Windstar.
Smart move on letting Wanda drive, bad things happen when driving angry.
I think Dutch and Wanda will be doing more than unloading groceries when they get home.

I wish the story would move forward and why are they not wearing winter coats? There is snow on the ground.

The current date in the story is March 21, so it’s already spring. My guess is that it’s not snowing anymore and that the leftover snow on the ground hasn’t melted yet.

Late March is not spring in Maine, although many Mainers are fairly cold tolerant and these haven’t been outside for very long.

This page is a example of pacing. No new information given. A few panels can be removed and you would still understand the narrative flow. This makes room to add plot panels. Then maybe we wouldn’t be on page 300+ and not know where this is going and so many unconnected storylines to wrap up.

The beyond bonus page is structural more sound for the most part. So far they have been compact but concise. Even my favorite comic DP, dragged at times, and two pages were released just to boast itself to the ending.

This seems to be on track to be longer than Makers Game. It’s probably too late for changes in this comic, so I hope the next series just gives you more in less time and space. The same goes for the animations. It sucks having to wait weeks for the next episode just to find its a conversation you already know what’s gonna be said for the whole 7 minutes run time.

I don’t really think there’s a pacing issue with this pannel in particular. It’s a key emotional moment, and it’s playing out over more than one page, which is reasonable. We get to see different characters react to the news. I do agree that there’s a general feeling in this comic of “where is this all going?” but that’s more related to having a lot of different storylines, and not all of them really feel like they fit together yet. (Where do the ghosts fit in? What does the swamp monster have to do with anything? Why are there so… Read more »

That’s fair, I suppose but for Wanda this is great news. I would have condensed these panels if it added 2 panels of Wanda acknowledging and then smiling at her opportunity. Or let this be the reveal of what Petrina gave him. But yeah what’s up with those ghosts lol

It is never great news when someone you’ve come to really care about is reduced to tears. Despite this news opening up the door for Wanda and Dutch to start a relationship, that’s the last thing on Wanda’s mind at the moment. Right now, she just wants to give Dutch emotional support, not someone to replace Christine. At least, not at the moment. Like it’s been said, I don’t think this page has pacing problems. We don’t have to always get new information on every page. Not when we have necessary, emotional moments like this. It wouldn’t do the scene… Read more »

You are obviously management. This story has been decent most of the time and good some of the time. Great once in awhile. The story seems to sputter and feels like there should have been some one off pages where we get a feeling about the government figuring out how to fix the problem or Mr. Statue getting the scoop on this. or something… Even some crazy admiral talking about dropping napalm.

Actually, that really isn’t true. I’m more of a helping hand, not management. I would have said what did in my last post whether I was the comment moderator or not. At the end of the day, I’m just a fan like you who has some control over the comments and nothing else. It’s also my opinion that, from a certain perspective, all the stuff with the ghosts, the pond monster, Alistair and the government isn’t relevant at the moment to “Cinder Isle.” This comic is a story about Zach/Zoey, Gavin and Shane doing their best to maintain a normal… Read more »

bad things happen to good people. Dutch needs your support to get through this, Wanda.

Then Clarissa finds out the affair

The thing that would make it even more worse is how it will affect Gavin and Shane’s friendship if Gavin finds out. I mean they’ve been friends for a long while but Shane hasn’t told Gavin about Wanda’s constant visits while Gavin fears his family will get divorced (something he can’t handle since it will be like how he lost his first mom).

While Wanda has supported Dutch and Shane when they needed it, she has never bothered to help her OWN son when he needs support.

That’s true, Wanda’s being irresponsible for not supporting Gavin when he’s walking out of Thanksgiving dinner and crying. But no, she going on her escapade with Dutch as a excuse to be appreciative for comfort. As for Clarissa, she didn’t have to lashing out on everything and treat some of the infected like trash. In the end, we blame the virus.

Perhaps Wade and Clarissa should ask Elaine or find counseling.

Then Zoey and Gavin talk together about deep family issues as both of them have 2 moms.

Wanda wasn’t the only one Clarissa treated like trash. In Halloween, Clarissa forbade chase from going out with daphne because she was infected. When chase went out with daphne regardless she blamed Wanda for chase no longer being a nice boy. Even when she was relieved chase didn’t get sent to jail for something he didn’t do, she would rather argue and blame people for bad things that happen in the family rather than go comfort and support her sons when they need help. Clarissa isn’t a great person when it comes to helping her sons when they are emotionally… Read more »

I agree that Clarissa should not act very stressed out since the lockdown of Cinder Isle, but she would realize that Chase is a responsible one and not a little kid by bringing 2 masks at the Halloween party in case of virus outbreak.

Maybe this stepmom could learn to treat her family as human beings, not as her personal shock absorbers.

Although Clarissa didn’t treat Zoey like garbage since she’s playing D&D game with Gavin and Shane at the resort cabin from page 264.

The three families were together at the time and probably very close. Clarissa would have probably gotten a very long and harsh scolding from Elaine for talking to her daughter like she’s trash.

Indeed, Elaine is the best Mom in this comic
