Yeah, I’m not convinced that this character is the guy we’re looking for. The subject of that docufilm must already be known if it’s already awarded, and it’s definitely not about Lara, from the sounds of it. Besides, Darren wouldn’t approve of that, and honestly, there’s just better ways to expose Lara’s secret if that hacker really wants to.
This might all just be about Darren possibly leaving the week after, which might force Lara to make a final decision about what she really wants to do moving forward, which I really hope happens. She needs an endgame plan ASAP.

This would be the perfect opportunity for Luke to break up with Darren through reasonable methods, without leaving him totally heartbroken. I’m guessing one last night of fun before Darren leaves, without his virginity and ready to scope out the New York dating market.
That would be nice. He finally gets his confidence boots that need needed along.
