I knew Shane wasn’t oblivious or dense. He’s been having feelings for Natalie and just wasn’t sure if she was on the same page as him. If he made an assumption and he was wrong, then not only would he upset Natalie, but he would also lose her as a friend. So he just wanted to be sure before he did anything with Natalie.

That’s an interesting point. The concerns about dating an infected girl was brought up by Clarissa when Chase as a guy was dating Daphne. There’s more infected females (the guys who were transformed along with the natural women who were transformed) than they are uninfected females.
