There wasn’t enough in-story evidence for it to be sure, in my opinion. But from a meta-narrative perspective… When the answer to a mystery is just given to the main character, it should immediately be suspect. The instant Karl offered up a name, I assumed Stephen was a scapegoat.

I think a re-write of this scene happened and didn’t get cleaned-up properly. “Lara” made the date with Jorge, but Luke seems to be expecting Ana to show up for some reason.

Zoey is definitely sure she wants to go back to being a guy. I think Natalie’s question was more about how Zack and Gavin’s relationship would be affected, which Zoey has had time to think on at this point.

I think it just has to do with whether the curse is applied or inherited. In Awakening, Sylvana only turns her servants into women. I think her curse does what this virus does to anyone that has it cast on them directly but, when inherited, a person born female will swap to being male.

Maybe it’s just cause I’m a reader with meta-knowledge, but I’m assuming the only immune person known would be put under immediate and indefinite confinement in order to keep him safe and run experiments on him. Loss of freedom would mean he can’t finish putting the statue back together, which Gavin knows is important.

My theory: Gavin is infected, but was cursed already. The infection is causing him to develop over time like other characters we’ve seen, but it keeps him male because Gavin already had one of the curses which interferes with the infection.

Just had this thought: if the disease is caused by the curses leaking out, why is it turning men into women but the women into hyper-sexualized versions of themselves? Don’t the curses just swap the sex of whoever they affect? Why aren’t the women turning into men instead?

Agreed. Though could be either because he’s been thinking about it since it started and this is his chance to catch it without letting people know he wants it, or, possibly more interesting for the town, it could be the start of people who convert simply because they don’t want to delay the inevitable or live in fear of being infected anymore.

Please tell me this is a story where the characters have the tiniest bit of sense necessary to go to the police about being harassed and threatened. There’s no way intentionally infecting someone wouldn’t get Bruce in a heck of a lot of trouble.
