No Doubt Gavin’s Mom has been worried about getting herself infected or getting others infected, but even if that wasn’t an issue, Gavin’s parents could still have problems given the father’s history. For all we know the infection may have just sped up the inevitable.

I don’t even think same -sex marriage was legal in Maine back then. That being the case, I don’t think Gavin’s Parents’ marriage would be recognized and therefore they couldn’t get divorced either. So at the time in which this story takes place, it could be that the only reason that they haven’t divorced yet is because legally they can’t.
