Everything has a hardness rating applicable, like steel is a 4.5-5 iirc, so it’s useful for more than just rating minerals/gemstones.
Also the usefulness of it’s hardness is dependent on application, like you make a diamond saw for cutting things not an ax to chop because despite it’s hardness the crystalline structure is also brittle…sorry, this is why I’m not allowed to play trivia games anymore lol
