The Fox was not only human at one point, but Ruby was his lover. When Ruby became power hungry, the Fox sought to stop her plans. Paranoid that the Fox would betray her, she cursed him in his sleep, causing any spell he cast on her to be duplicated on him. When he turned her into a statue, his own curse was copied onto him.”
