Just an interesting thought. Does traveling fatigue them in any way? If you’ve played these MMOs with large maps like this capital city you know you have to do a lot of running to get any place. It would be interesting to address that or bring ‘mounts’ into the picture. 🙂

So the mask can be worn and once off it’s useless, no powers and stats if worn.

Is Cynthel surprised for it could reveal his true self or is (s)he like the others angry that they weren’t informed.

That’s dumb why would anyone want that if the game didn’t get hacked? Other then if two people fell in love and wanted to see the real person that they have been flirting with.

I see Cynthia is one of those people who not only doesn’t care about lore but spoils it for others and then wonders why people stop bothering to try and share “important information”. The Queen’s name will probably be important information too.
So that’s what the mask in the wallpaper is for and hopefully Lena will get some important life lessons from the way guys are treating her.
New game economies when 10,000 is expensive and farmers haven’t driven prices sky high and then comment you just need to play the market and sell those rare items you actually need.

Hmm, you make a pretty good point about farmers. I wonder how AOA deals with them?

My best guess is that it’s just too expensive of an up-front investment to be able to play the game at all, so farmers and gold spammers probably just won’t be an issue.

Scammers, though… I can see that being huge if they don’t have any systems in place to clamp down on that. That’s where the gold sellers get most of their in-game currency from these days, too.

There is a video up on Extra Credits about hyper-inflation in MMOs that could give an idea. AOA is new enough to not have to worry about that for a while though.

As I have found with MMOs, you need to offer a service that can’t be bought with gold that only the NPCs have. That way it is a natural coin sink and the risk of inflation goes down. If the in-game currency is being sucked out, then the price of gold remains low. In one of the games I played, gold was 100k at its beginning, and when I left the game it was 6m or higher (during one period it was almost 21m). There were no coin sinks of significant value and the prices exploded. AOA would need to… Read more »

Yep the cash sink needs to be both ongoing, beneficial and not just a tax for playing which makes balacing it hard. The manga “Only Sense Online” has some good sounding systems in that game e.g. You can buy a shop/workspace/living space and then hire an NPC to handle all the selling for you. So you can focus on crafting/exploring/levelling while they sell what you make and harvest your fields for supplies.
